Solvern Innovations announced today the kick-off of an innovative approach to recruiting that will benefit high school seniors attending school in HUBZone areas of the Baltimore/Washington area.
Working with high school counselors, Solvern Innovations will identify highly motivated candidates in good academic standing and free of discipline problems to begin the security clearance process. Once security clearances are approved, students will be placed in jobs within government agencies under one of Solvern Innovations’ contracts.
These jobs will not only provide the candidates with a salary, but will also provide education, health and other benefits. These candidates will be able to earn income, attend college, and develop skills needed by the intelligence communities.
“This is a win, win, win situation” stated Terry Craft, COO and architect of the plan. “The students win because they will have a job, security, and an opportunity to learn skills they normally would not have had the chance to learn; the government agencies around the beltway win, because there will be an influx of new talent normally overlooked; and our company wins because we have a new base of employees appreciative of the chance we provided”.

"Top Minority Business Leaders, 40 & Under" Excerpts – MD/DC Minority Supplier Development Council
The Maryland / Washington D.C. regional council office of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. recently recognized twelve enterprising minority business leaders as written in their May 2004 publication.
These twelve individuals all have something else in common, they all are under the age of forty; and of these twelve, Andre Gudger of Solvern Innovations, Inc., is one of three, who is under the age of thirty. Not to be balked at, Mr. Gudger, as well as others referenced in this article "have willed their determination from serving as an "apprentice" to define leadership that surpasses reality television." There is no doubt, that in this period of time where many of today’s young entrepreneurs are seen as "frivolous and unfocused", these business leaders have proven that their talents and abilities are to be taken seriously.
As Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Solvern Innovations, Inc., Andre Gudger’s firm is made up of three wholly owned subsidiaries that encompass the areas of Real Estate, Asset Management, and Technology. He has "earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and is currently completing his MBA through the global ONE MBA program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, as well as several technical and financial certifications."
Andre Gudger has also received numerous civic and national recognitions, that include the Passing of the Torch Legacy award, the Innovative CEO of the Year award; and has delivered keynote speeches for Bell South’s BNAT organization, and the Alliance of Black Telecommunication Employees.
It is very explicit in reading through Mr. Gudger’s, and the other eleven biographies in this article, that they all are "A force to be reckoned with, their zeal exemplifies the emergence of a new generation of change".

Recipient of the Granville T. Woods Award for Outstanding CEO
Being recognized as one who has the vision to open new pathways in the telecommunications industry is quite an achievement, especially when the qualification is such for those recipients of the Granville T. Woods Award.
Yearly, an African-American CEO of an African-American-owned business is presented with this award, and for 2003, Mr. Andre Gudger, CEO of Maryland-based Solvern Innovations was the named recipient. Andre Gudger was noted for rapidly breaking industry strides in the progression of his corporation, Solvern Innovations, which provides technology services and programs through the provision of innovative custom-designed software packages, and extensive enterprise architecture solutions.
Established by the National Association of Black Telecommunications Professionals (NABTP), the award was created in honor of famed African-American inventor and engineer, Granville T. Woods, (1856-1910). Mr. Woods was responsible for the creation of the infamous Synchronous Multiplex Railway Telegraph, a communication device for train conductors and engineers. Woods, along with his brother Lyates, designed and developed this device in his Cincinnati, Ohio Woods Electric Company facility. Woods’ background as a locomotive engineer, and in electrical and mechanical engineering, aided him in the invention of other devices, such as electromagnetic brakes and brake housing, the electrical translator, and the electrical thermostat.
Following in the spirit of Granville T. Wood’s creativity, and inventiveness, Andre Gudger can be seen as a true trend-setter in today’s sense of the word. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Gudger’s vision of changing how companies view large data sets through the use of Solvern’s recently-acquired Business Intelligence tool that provides software enhanced mapped-data visualizations has come to light, as Solvern’s flagship product has gained tremendous momentum with several Fortune 100 companies.
Look out for what’s to come from Andre Gudger and Solvern Innovations in this 21st century, as security and technology arenas become paramount to every corporate culture, and ready for innovative solutions he and his company are able to provide. It indeed seems quite apparent why NABTP’s 2003 recipient of the Granville T. Woods award is Andre Gudger.

Maryland Start-up Solvern Innovations Licenses Novel Data-visualization
COLLEGE PARK, MD…Solvern Innovations, a Maryland-based information technology, capital management, and real estate development company has licensed a novel data-visualization software called Treemap from the University of Maryland College Park. Treemap is the latest of nearly 200 technologies licensed by the University of Maryland to Maryland-based companies.
"I see Treemap as a kind of visual dashboard," said Solvern Chairman and CEO Andre Gudger. "I see this on every desktop." Gudger envisions Treemap technology in a wide variety of applications, from displaying the results of a web search to visualizing real-time data streams...
Treemap is a unique method for visualizing data in a two-dimensional display. The technology organizes hierarchical data as nodes, giving more space to nodes which are more relevant or important—for example, making the most relevant results of a search appear larger in the window. Users can change the program’s settings to customize preferences such as how space is allocated and how individual nodes are colored. The Treemap technique was developed jointly by Dr. Ben Schneiderman of the Human Computer Interaction Lab and Dr. Catherine Plaisant-Schwenn of the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Maryland College Park. Gudger believes Treemap technology has the potential to be on every desktop in five years.
Treemap represents Reisterstown, Maryland-based Solvern Innovations’ first technology license from the University of Maryland. Gudger, who has experience in information technologies and financial management, anticipates continued cooperation with the University of Maryland’s Office of Technology Commercialization to help him connect with cutting-edge technologies. "I want to leverage the expertise of the University of Maryland," Gudger said, "and to be a bridge to private business."
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) at the University of Maryland was established in 1986 to facilitate the transfer of life, information and physical science inventions developed at the university to business and industry. Over the past 17 years, OTC has recorded more than 1200 technologies and more than 700 license agreements, generating more than $20 million in technology transfer income to the university. In addition, 29 high-tech start-up companies have been formed based on technologies developed at the university.
